Lecture about connection between Divine Mercy and Christ’s Passion
April 15th, 2017, at 9 a. m. St. Francis of Assisi (Bernardine) Church invites you to begin Holy Saturday with seminarian Justin A. Gough from United States of America. He will give a talk about how the Divine Mercy helps us better understand Christ‘s Passion and enter more deeply into the Paschal Mysteries.
The image of Divine Mercy, he says, re-presents to us several specific moments of the Passion. As the Feast of Divine Mercy is celebrated on the Sunday after Easter, the wisdom of the Church seems to suggest that the Divine Mercy is the lens through which we should consider all that has come before in the previous two weeks: the Passion, Death, and Resurrection of Christ, and that all of this took place to save us as individuals, just as Christ appears to us in the image, as individuals.
Justin, a seminarian for the Archdiocese of Baltimore in formation for the priesthood at the Pontifical North American College in Rome, had a pastoral placement last summer at the Shrine of Divine Mercy and at the Vilnius Pilgrim Center.
